Here is a very nice fossil fish from Wyoming. This is a fabulous Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene. This fish exhibits fine detail - the bone structure is clearly defined, and the overall shape is beautifully displayed. The orangish color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The Diplo is well positioned on the almost oval plate of matrix that also has a baby Diplo preserved at the bottom of the plate. This is a beautiful specimen of a complete fossil herring and little buddy from the Green River Formation.
