Here is a very attractive plate of fossil fish. There are two fine examples of Knightia eocaena on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, the scale pattern is easily seen, and the eye sockets are quite distinct. The fish have great orangish-brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well positioned on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of two fossil herring from the Eocene.
