This is a very fine example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, and even some of the scale pattern is preserved! The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a large specimen (over seven inches!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
