This is an excellent example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the dark eye is easily seen and even the scale pattern is preserved! The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of this large, uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
