Here is an extremely unusual fossil fish. It is a very well preserved Centriscus strigatus from the Pliocene of Italy. This is a type of Trumpetfish, which is unusual in the fossil record. The large fish exhibits great detail - the eye socket is easily seen, and the long trumpet-like mouth is well displayed. The fossil has excellent, dark brown color and contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The fish is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a fabulous specimen of this unique fossil fish from Italy.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
