This is a very large fossil fish. It is a HUGE Diplomystus poweri from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming very difficult to obtain. This ''exotic-looking'' fish exhibits great detail. The bone structure and fins are wonderfully displayed, and the eye socket of the wide-bodied fish is clearly defined. The fossil has stunning, reddish-orange coloration that contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fish is well presented on the oval plate of sublithographic limestone. And the fish is almost six inches long! This is a MONSTER specimen of this extinct tropical fish.
