Here is an interesting plate of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different types of fish on the plate. At the top of the slab is a nice example of Diplomystus dentatus. This fossil herring has great bone structure preserved. A wonderfully detailed specimen of Knightia eocaena is present at the bottom of the plate. This fish has fine bone structure and the eye socket and tail are beautifully displayed. Both dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are naturally well positioned on the large, semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of two different fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
