Here is a very uncommon fossil fish. This is a wonderful specimen of Osmeroides sardinoides from the Middle Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This elongate fish exhibits excellent detail. The bone structure is well defined, and the fins and tail are beautifully displayed. The fossil has great orange color, which contrasts well with the lighter colored matrix. The fish is well showcased on the large plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very striking example of this unusual Cretaceous fish from Lebanon.
