This is a very striking fossil fish. It is a complete Aipichthys velifer from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming very difficult to obtain. This exotic-looking fish exhibits great detail. The bone structure and fins are wonderfully displayed, and the eye socket of the wide-bodied fish is well defined. The fossil has stunning, reddish-orange coloration that contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fish is well presented on the squared plate of sublithographic limestone that also contains an ornate arthropod. This is an excellent display specimen of this distinct tropical fish.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
