This is an exotic fossil fish. It is a complete Primigatus sp. from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has row of long dorsal fins and a large head. The fish has very fine detail - the large eye socket, scale pattern, and distinct backbone are quite striking. The fish has great dark color, which contrasts beautifully with the rectangular plate of limestone matrix that also has a small, inidentified fish preserved. This is an excellent example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
