This is a very distinct fossil fish. It is a fabulous Pateroperca sp. from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This excellent specimen has long row of dorsal fins and also an extremely long tail. The fish has very fine detail - the large eye socket and wonderful bone structure are quite striking. The fish has great natural color, which contrasts beautifully with the large plate of limestone matrix. This is a very collectible example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
