This is a great specimen of an extremely unusual fossil fish. It is a Peipiaosteus sp. from the ''feathered dinosaur'' site of China. When it was first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a fossil sturgeon. This excellent fish is beautifully displayed, and the detail of the fish is just wonderful. The skull of the fish is easily seen, the fins are very distinct, and the tail is clearly defined. Even the skin of the fish is preserved! The fossil has gorgeous color and contrast and is well showcased on the large, semi-squared plate of matrix. This is a very detailed specimen of this unusual fossil sturgeon from China.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
