Here is an absolutely gorgeous fossil fish. This is a wonderful specimen of Diplomystus poweri from the Middle Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This wide-bodied fish exhibits extraordinary detail. The bone structure is well defined and the fins are beautifully displayed. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fossil has great, natural orange color and superb contrast with the light colored matrix. This exotic-looking fish is well positioned on the somewhat squared plate of sublithographic limestone that also contains a fossil shrimp on the reverse side. This is a very striking example of this highly uncommon fish from Lebanon.
