This is a fine specimen of Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish is very distinct and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is beautifully displayed, and the dorsal fin and tail are easily seen. The eye socket is clearly defined, and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm. The dark, orangish-brown color of the fish contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil herring is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice fossil fish from Wyoming.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
