This is an outstanding specimen of an extremely unusual fossil fish. It is Protosephurus liui, a Paddlefish, from the ''Feathered Dinosaur'' site of China. When it was first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a Paddlefish. This excellent fish is well preserved in lateral view, and the detail of the fish is just exquisite. The fins and tail are clearly defined, and the paddle-like beak is nicely intact. The fossil has wonderful color and contrast and is beautifully centered on the large, squared plate of matrix. This is a very collectible example of this primitive fossil fish from China.
