This is one of our most requested Lebanese fossils. It is a complete Cyclobatis major from the quarries near Hajoula. Lebanese fossils like this are hard to acquire due to political unrest in the area. Cyclobatis is not a true Stingray, but rather a skate, and skates of any type are quite rare. This example has great form and is extremely detailed - cartilage does not preserve as well as bone, so the quality of preservation here is exceptional. The individual rays are beautifully preserved, and the tail is even intact. The fossil has great natural blond coloration and is nicely showcased on the rectangular plate of limestone. And every one of the dozens of rays you see is natural - not just painted in! This is an extremely collectible Cyclobatis - one of the most distinctive and impressive fossils from Lebanon.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
