This is a very large Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The distinct fossil fish is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The eye socket is intact, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The bone structure is quite noticeable. The fish has nice dark coloration and contrasts well with the cream-colored rock. This is a very large example of a fossil herring from the famous Green River Shale.
