This is a fabulous specimen of Prionolepis cataphractus from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Fossils from this region have become increasingly difficult to obtain due to political unrest. Unlike most of the fossils from this site in Lebanon, there has been no enhancement - no color has been added to this specimen. The detail of the specimen is extremely fine - the bone structure is superb, and the scale pattern is even preserved. The fossil fish is well centered on a semi-oval plate of lithographic limestone. This is a great specimen of an unusual fossil fish from Lebanon.
