Here is a large fossil fish from Wyoming. This is an extremely nice Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene. This fish exhibits incredible detail - the bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are beautifully displayed. The eye socket is easily seen, and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm to the specimen. The orangish color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The Diplo is well centered on the large, oval plate of matrix. This is a stunning specimen of a large fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
