This is a very nice specimen of a rare fossil fish. It is a complete Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This large specimen exhibits fine detail - the bone structure is present, and the fins and tail are nicely displayed. Even the scale pattern is somewhat preserved! The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of this uncommon fossil fish.
