This is a fine plate of two different fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit excellent form and wonderful detail. On the left side of the slab is a striking specimen of Mioplosus labracoides. This highly uncommon predatory fish has the bone structure, fins, and tail beautifully displayed. A fine example of Knightia eocaena, a fossil herring, is on the right side of the slab. This sleek fish shows the eye socket very clearly. The dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are extremely well positioned on the oval plate of shale. This is a very displayable slab of two types of fish from the Green River Formation.
