This is an excellent specimen of Jianghanicthys hubeiensis from the Eocene of China. This fish is complete and exhibits great detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are easily seen. Even the scale pattern is quite evident! The natural, dark brown color of the fish contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The fish is beautifully centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful example of a large Jianghanicthys from the Eocene of China.
