This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is a complete Lissoberyx sp. from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has long row of dorsal fins and also spiky fins on the underside. The fish has very fine detail, and the large eye socket and distinct backbone are quite striking. The fish has great natural color, which contrasts beautifully with the rectangular plate of limestone matrix. This is an excellent example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
