This is a fabulous specimen of a huge Mioplosus labracoides from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Mioplosus was an extinct predatory perch-like fish with a double dorsal fin. This unusual fish exhibits exquisite detail. The bone structure of the fish is clearly defined, and the fins are beautifully displayed. Even the tooth-filled mouth is easily seen under magnification. The orangish-brown coloration of the fish is very striking and contrasts beautifully with the buff-colored matrix. The fish is very well centered on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is simply a spectacular display specimen of a very large, wonderfully preserved Green River fish.
