This is a very nice fossil fish. It is a distinct Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the fins are well defined, and the tail is quite evident. This fish has natural dark coloration and that contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored rock. The fossil is well showcased on the rectangular matrix plate that also contains a rare gastropod fossil. This is an extremely uncommon association of a fossil fish and a snail from the Eocene Green River Shale.
