Here is a nice specimen of an unusual fossil fish. This is juvenile Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation of Utah. Only a handful of these fish are found each year, and babies are quite rare. This fish is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins and open mouth are easily seen. The fish has great orangish-brown color that contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the oval plate of shale. This is a rare juvenile specimen of this uncommon fish from the Eocene.
