Here is a fine fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is a Knightia alta from the Green River Shale. This fossil fish is complete and exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure is nicely displayed, and the eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fish has great, natural color and contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The fish is well centered on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this unusual fossil herring from the Eocene.
