Here is a fantastic fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation. This fossil fish is complete and exhibits extremely fine detail. The bone structure is nicely displayed and the fins and tail are well preserved. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the scale pattern is even preserved! The fossil has great, natural color and contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fish is nicely centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is one of the best quality Knightia eocaena we have ever offered.
