This is a very nice specimen of a rare fossil fish. It is a complete Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This large specimen exhibits fine detail - the bone structure is present, the fins are nicely displayed, and open mouth is quite striking. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is nicely showcased on the semi-oval plate of oilshale. This is a wonderful specimen of this uncommon fossil fish.
