This is simply one of the best fossil fish we have ever had, period. It is a large Priscacara serrata from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This type is very sought-after because of its recognizable look - similar to a modern-day Bluegill or Crappie. This fossil was found in the ''18 Inch Layer'', a layer where the fossils have wonderful detail and great dark color. The fossils from this layer need to be extracted under a microscope to reveal all the detail. Usually, this is done with an air scribe or grinder. But this specimen was prepared with a new technique using acid! This acid-etched specimen has incredible detail, better than the old technique - the backbone, fins, tail, and other bones are very easily seen. And, best of all, there is no restoration or color added to this amazing fossil fish! This is a beautifully-prepared Priscacara from the ''18 Inch Layer'' that has been professionally framed for optimal display.
