This is a very striking fossil fish. It is a large Diplomystus poweri from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming very difficult to obtain. This ''exotic-looking'' fish exhibits great detail. The bone structure and fins are wonderfully displayed, and the eye socket of the wide-bodied fish is clearly defined. The fossil has stunning, reddish-orange coloration that contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. And there is even a fossil shrimp preserved with the fish, actually touching it! This is a unique specimen of a beautiful tropical fish and a shrimp literally preserved together.
