This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is a Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has a bizarre ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and large, extended fins on the underside (some enhancement for contrast). The fish has very fine detail, displaying the eye socket beautifully. This specimen has great color and contrast. The fish is well centered on the squared plate of limestone that also contains two other fossil fish and a complete shrimp! This is one of the more displayable fossil fish from Lebanon, and one of the most unusual framed fish we have ever had.
