This is an excellent example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure. The fins and eye socket are nicely preserved and even some tiny teeth are easily seen. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is beautifully displayed on the oval plate of shale. This is a very pretty specimen of a predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
