This is a very nice plate of two fossil fish swimming in the same direction. These are Knightia humilis from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are well articulated and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is quite evident, the eye sockets are easily seen, and the fins are wonderfully displayed - even the scale pattern of both fish is apparent. The naturally brown fish contrast beautifully with the multi-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the oval plate of shale. This is a very attractive plate of fossil herring from the Eocene Fossil Lake deposits.
