This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is a Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has a bizarre ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and large, extended fins on the underside (some enhancement for contrast). The fish has very fine detail, even displaying the scales and eye socket. This specimen has great color, and contrasts beautifully with the squared plate of limestone. This is one of the more displayable fossil fish from Lebanon. It is a fine example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
