Here is an excellent specimen of one of the most sought-after fish from the Green River Shale. This is Priscacara liops from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fish was found in the ''18-inch layers'' and painstakingly prepared with an air scribe and air abrasive machine to reveal the wonderful detail of this ''sunfish''. The bone structure of this fish is superb, and the eye socket is easily seen. The fins are clearly defined - the sharp spines of the dorsal fin are intact and beautifully displayed. The natural, dark-brown color of the fish contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. This is a very collectible example of this classic fossil fish.
