This is an excellent fossil fish. It is a large Diplomystus from Kemmerer, Wyoming. This fossil was found in the ''18 Inch Layer'', a layer where the fossils have wonderful detail and great dark color. The fossils need to be extracted under a microscope to reveal all the detail. Usually, this is done with an air scribe or grinder. But this specimen was prepared with a new technique using acid! This acid-etched specimen has incredible detail - the backbone, fins, tail, and other bones are very easily seen. And, best of all, there is no restoration or color added to this amazing fossil fish! This is a beautifully-prepared Diplomystus dentatus from the ''18 Inch Layer'' of the Green River Formation.
