Here is a very attractive plate of fossil fish. There are two fine examples of Knightia humilis on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are easily seen. The eye sockets are quite distinct and even the scale pattern is preserved. The fish have great, natural orangish-brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well positioned on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of two fossil herring from the Eocene.
