Here is a beautiful display plate of fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. On the left side of the large plate is an excellent example of Priscacara serrata. This is one of the most sought-after fossil fish from the Green River Formation. This fossil ''sunfish'' is complete and exhibits superb detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fins are extremely well preserved - the sharp dorsal spines are beautifully displayed above the body of the fish, and even the scale pattern of the fish is somewhat evident. A complete example of Diplomystus dentatus is present on the right side of the plate. This fossil herring also shows fine detail. The orangish-brown fish contrast wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well showcased on the large, unbroken plate of shale. This is an extremely attractive fossil with two different types of fossil fish from the Fossil Lake deposits of Wyoming.
