This is a very unusual fish fossil. It is a complete Armigatus brevissimus from Lebanon. Fossils from this region have become increasingly difficult to obtain due to political unrest. This specimen of Armigatus has very nice color and detail. But the unusual feature of this fossil is the large Eurypholis (Viperfish) head preserved directly below the Armigatus. The head has great detail, and the long, sharp teeth are easily seen in the mouth. It is not hard to see that Armigatus were easy meals for the voracious Viperfish. This is an excellent example of two very different Cretaceous fish fossilized together.
