Here is a very nice specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Green River Shale. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Eocene of Wyoming. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is present, and the fins are nicely displayed. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the oval plate of oilshale. This is a wonderful specimen of this uncommon fossil fish.
