This is a very attractive fossil fish. It is a Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This well preserved fish is nicely articulated and exhibits excellent detail. The bone structure of the fish is beautifully displayed, and the fins are totally intact. The natural, orangish-brown color of the fossil fish contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well centered on the oval plate of shale that also contains an interesting coprolite (fossil poop). This is a stunning specimen of this fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
