Here is a nice specimen of an unusual fossil fish. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation of Utah. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This fish is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are easily seen. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very attractive specimen of this uncommon fish from the Eocene.
