This is a wonderful specimen of Lycoptera sp. from the Jurassic of China. The fine detail of this fish is beautifully displayed. The large eye of the fish is easily seen, and the bone structure is clearly defined. The fins are quite evident, and the very tip of the tail is still buried by a thin layer of matrix. The dark color of the fish is totally natural and contrasts well with the tannish-gray matrix. The fossil is nicely presented on the plate of shale. This is a beautiful example of this Jurassic fish.
