Here is a wonderful plate of fossil fish from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. The tropical-looking fish in the center of the plate is Aipichthys velifer. There is also an unidentified fish on either side of the Aipichthys. Due to political unrest, specimens from this part of the world are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. The well-articulated fossil fish exhibit fine detail - the bone structure is clearly defined and the large fins are beautifully displayed. The orangish-brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well presented on the rectangular plate of sub-lithographic limestone. This is a very aesthetic specimen of fossil fish from Lebanon.
