Here is a very diplayable fossil fish from Wyoming. This is an extremely large Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene. This fish exhibits incredible detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are beautifully displayed. The eye socket is easily seen and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm to the specimen. The orangish color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the almost rectangular plate of matrix. This is a stunning specimen of a large fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
