Here is a wonderful specimen of Jianghanicthys hubeiensis from the Eocene of China. This specimen is large for the type and exhibits superb detail - the bone structure is extremely well defined and the scale pattern is even preserved! The dark color of the fish is totally natural and contrasts beautifully with the grey-colored matrix. The fossil is nicely centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an excellent example of this type of Eocene fish.
