Here is an attractive specimen of a rare fossil fish. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This fish is nicely articulated and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is beautifully displayed and the fins are clearly defined. The fossil has great, dark coloration and contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very good example of this uncommon fish from the Eocene.
