Here is a very beautiful fossil fish. This is Diplomystus poweri from the Middle Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This wide-bodied fish is superbly articulated and exhibits wonderful detail. The bone structure and fins are nicely displayed. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen and the long tail is quite evident. The fossil has great, natural orange color and superb contrast with the light colored matrix. This unusual fish is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a terrific specimen of this exotic-looking fish.
