Here is a beautiful display plate of fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Near the bottom of the large plate is an excellent example of Priscacara serrata. This is one of the most sought-after fossil fish from the Green River Formation. This fossil "sunfish" is complete and exhibits superb detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fins are extremely well preserved - the sharp dorsal spines are beautifully displayed above the body of the fish. Even the scale pattern of the fish is quite evident. Two examples of Knightia humilis are present at the top of the plate. These fossil herring also show fine detail. The orangish-brown fish contrast wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well positioned on the unbroken plate of shale. This is an extremely attractive plate of two different types of fossil fish from the Fossil Lake deposits of Wyoming.
